1 Pahrump Nuclear Waste & Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes 12/04/2020 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order 2. Roll Call In attendance: Mike Smith, Bill Stremmel, John Pawlak, Deb Perna. Visitor, Heather Freeman 3. Approval of the Agenda for December 4, 2020 4 yay/0 nay 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First) 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of minutes of the Pahrump Nuclear Waste and Environmental Advisory Committee meeting of, May 1, 2020 4 yay/0 nay 6. Announcements (First) 7. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for the future.) Bill Stremmel raised the issue of water shortages due to 200+ days without rain, low humidity, and how dust issues are impacting the valley and surrounding areas. This will be a topic of discussion moving forward. 8. For Possible Active- Discussion & deliberation to accept the applications(s) to the Pahrump Nuclear Waste & Environmental Advisory Committee. Applicants: Bill Stremmel, John Pawlak, Mike Smith and Debra Perna. 4 yay/0 nay 9. For Possible Action - Discussion & deliberation – Install 2021 Committee Chair and Secretary 4 yay/0 nay for incumbents to retain their positions for 2021. ---PAGE BREAK--- PAHRUMP NUCLEAR WASTE & ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE ITEM # SUBJECT December 4, 2020 2 10. For Possible Action - Discussion & deliberation – Regarding future meetings platforms for the Pahrump Environmental Management Advisory Committee. (In-person, Video, Telephonic.) 4yay/0 nay that the committee will continue remote telephone meetings. 11. For Possible Action - Discussion & deliberation – Initial Planning of Earth Day/Arbor Day 2021. 4yay/0 nay that the committee will work on an abbreviated plan for this event pending on COVID status. John will reserve Ian Deutsch for the time being. 12. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation - Regarding Environment issues in Southern Nevada and within the Town of Pahrump to include comments to the Board of Nye County Commissioners. It was brought up that Debra Strickland is leading a new Advisory Committee for recreational trails. There is an opportunity to address dust issues here. Moving forward, the committee identified an opportunity to speak for three minutes during the BOCC public comments portion of the Commissioners meetings that are scheduled in Pahrump. 13. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation – Regarding Nuclear issues in Southern Nevada and within the Town of Pahrump to include comments to the Board of Nye County Commissioners. Bill Strummel brought up the issue of Yuca Mountain and underground nuclear testing issues. The committee will discuss opportunities related to this topic moving forward. 14.
