Page 1 March 10, 2022 Pursuant to NRS, a meeting of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee was held at 8:00AM on March 10, 2022 in the Board of County commissioners Chambers in Pahrump, Nevada. 1. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AND CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Horton at 8:05 am in the Board of County Commissioners Chambers. 2. ROLL CALL Attendees: PTAC members - James Horton, Karen Spalding, Jack Sanders, Vicki Gladsjo and Deanna O’ Donnell. Catherine Tillet, Tim Burke and Debbie Davis were excused. Not excused – Kellie Graham. Also in attendance were Arlette Ledbetter, Tourism Director, Alexandra Crow, PTAC Executive Assistant and Bob Adams, Pahrump OHV Tourism Ambassador. Guests: Frank and Rob & Peggy, RS Video. 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA FOR MARCH 10, 2022 Agenda approved. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person). Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item. (FIRST) No comments. 5. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION: DISCUSSION AND DELIBERATION OF THE MINUTES OF THE PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING OF JANUARY 13, 2022. James Horton offered corrections to the minutes. Jack Sanders moved to approve the minutes of the January 13, 2022 meeting as corrected. Karen Spalding seconded and motion was approved unanimously. 6. ANNOUNCEMENTS James Horton announced that at the May 12th PTAC meeting, Tim Sutton would be doing a presentation on the status of the fairground project, and that representatives from Death Valley National Park would be presenting on tourism trends in the park. 7. COMMITTEE COMMENTS (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas ---PAGE BREAK--- Page 2 PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT March 10, 2022 Room tax issues with Airbnb (and the like) properties were briefly mentioned. 8. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – DISCUSSION AND DELIBERATION REGARDING TOURISM DIRECTOR’S REPORT. Tourism Director, Arlette, gave an overview of the various projects and initiatives her department has been working on. 9. FOR DISCUSSION ONLY – REPORT BY ROBERT ADAMS, PAHRUMP’S OHV TOURISM AMBASSADOR. Robert Adams spoke briefly about a wildlife restraint fence that the BLM is pursuing, and about the status of various solar projects and their impact on the community. 10. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – DISCUSSION TO SUPPORT BOB ADAM’S PROPOSED CHANGE TO PHASE #1 OF THE PAHRUMP TO TONOPAH OFFROAD TRAIL, AN OHV ROUTE CONNECTING CENTRAL PAHRUMP TO THE PUBLIC LAND TO THE NORTH. Jack Sanders moved to approve and support the proposed change. Karen Spalding seconded and motion was approved unanimously. 11. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION- DISCUSSION AND DELIBERATION FOR ANY TOURISM RELATED RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE BOARD OF COUTY COMMISSIONERS, WITH REPECT TO PTAC’S ROLE AS AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE BOCC. The need for a convention center was once again mentioned. 12. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second) No comments. 13. ANNOUNCEMENTS (second) Next meeting scheduled for May 12, 2022 at 8:00 am. 14. ADJOURNMENT Adjourned at 9:07 am.
