Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes October 17, 2024 1 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Bruce Cox, Chairman. Location: Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the September 2024 meeting minutes and the October 2024 agenda were available. Voting tokens and Member applications were provided to each member. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Bruce Cox, Chair, Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Jerry Paradise, and Jerry Dumont. Absent: Eddie Williams, Stephen Hall, Greg Cardarelli, and Dina Williamson-Erdag all were excused. Commissioner Frank Carbone and Jimmy Martiez, Building and Grounds supervisor, were present. Public present, Marge Paradise. 3. Approval of the Agenda for October 17, 2024. The November meeting date is November 21, 2024. The agenda states November 14, 2024. Please note the correction. Jerry Paradise made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Beverly Baker seconded. Motion was approved. No public input. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). None. No Public input. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes for September 19, 2024. Beverly Baker made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Jerry Dumont seconded. Motion was approved. No public comment. 6. Announcements (First). • Annual Thank You BBQ Date, Thursday, October 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Committee members need to be at the building by 9:30 a.m. for setup. • Veterans Day Graveside Flag placement date: November 9, 2024, 9:00 a.m. • Veterans Day Graveside Flag pickup date: November 13, 2024, 9:00 a.m. • Veterans Day Event: November 11, 2024. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out- of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman, or Activities Coordinators. None. 8. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). • 911 Flag project updates by Jimmy Martinez. The 911 Flag shadow box has been completed. Jimmy Martinez and his crew did a fabulous job. Many thanks. The flag will be displayed centered on the west wall of the lobby. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. None. 10. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation to consider the following applicants to fill eight positions, due to eight upcoming expirations, and provide appointment recommendations to the BOCC: Bruce Cox, Beverly Baker, Alice Lübbers, Greg Cardarelli, Jerry Dumont, Jerry Paradise, Eddie Williams, Dina Williamson-Erdag, Margaret Paradise, Carl Jones, and Mitchel L. Peterson. Note: Stephen Hall membership renewal date is December 2026. All members were provided voting tokens and reviewed the 11 applications. Voting procedures were as follows: the nominees voluntarily left the room during the voting process. Each member was provided voting ballot tokens marked with the letter for yes and for no. The selected token was placed in a paper bag and given to the chairman for a vote tally. The vice chair counted the tokens during Bruce Cox’s voting. Members selected for the committee per the voting results: Bruce Cox, Beverly Baker, Alice Lübbers, Greg Cardarelli, Jerry Dumont, Jerry Paradise, Eddie Williams, and Margaret Paradise. 11. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding the location of the new structure to hold the outdoor glass door marquee and other items. The meeting was relocated outside the front building entrance area. Jimmy Martinez was available to answer questions. Members requested the structure be located between the pergolas and the west side of the building near the front sidewalk. Jimmy will use his discretion for the exact location. Members continued the meeting inside the building. 12. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding the Veterans Advisory Committee going dark for the December meeting. Discuss any updates for October Thank you BBQ for Building and Grounds crew on Thursday, October 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. All members please be at the building no later than 9:00 a.m. for setup. 14. General Public Comment (second). Commissioner Carbone would like to be updated regarding his duties for the Veterans Day event. 15. Committee Comment (second). None. 16. Announcements(second). • The next meeting will be November 21, 2024, 4:00 p.m., at the Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa cemetery. Jimmy Martinez announced construction for the second columbarium will begin in the next few weeks. 17. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned by Bruce Cox, Chairman at 4:50 p.m.
