Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes August 15, 2024 1 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Bruce Cox, Chairman. Location: Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the July 2024 meeting minutes and the August 2024 agendas were available. Nye County Board applications were also available. The applications were completed by all members in attendance. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Bruce Cox, Chair, Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Jerry Paradise, Greg Cardarelli, and Jerry Dumont. Absent: Eddie Williams and Stephen Hall were excused. Dina Williamson-Erdag, unexcused. Commissioner Frank Carbone was present. Jimmy Martiez, Building and Grounds supervisor was absent. Public attendee was Marge Paradise. 3. Approval of the Agenda for August 15, 2024. Jerry Paradise made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Beverly Baker seconded. Motion was approved. No public input. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). None. No Public input. 5. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes for the July 18, 2024. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Beverly Baker seconded. Motion was approved. No public comment. 6. Announcements (First). • Annual Thank You BBQ Date, Thursday October 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. For members who are participating, please have your $25.00 contribution to Jerry Paradise by September 19, 2024. • Committee membership renewal applications. Applications will be provided at the August 15, 2024 Veterans meeting. Members will need to complete their application form prior to leaving the meeting. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes August 15, 2024 2 • Fall Festival Dates: September 19-22, 2024. 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out- of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman, or Activities Coordinators. None. 8. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). • Glass Cabinet and 911 Flag project updates by Jimmy Martinez. The Glass cabinet has been installed and placed in the Veterans Building lobby. Beverly Baker and Greg Cardarelli are the co-chairs of the Donated Items subcommittee. They have requested assistance from committee members to help place items from the storage shed into the new glass cabinet. Bruce Cox and Alice Lübbers volunteered to help. Beverly stated the project will wait until cooler weather, late September time frame. Jimmy Martinez will provide 911 Flag updates at the September meeting. 9. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. None. 10. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding the location of the new structure to hold the outdoor glass door marquee and other items. The committee members relocated the meeting to the outside of the building, near the front door area. Discussion of placing the structure on the south side of the front doors just under the front awning roof area. Another possible site could be placing the structure on the north side of the building near the front sidewalk. Questions regarding whether that area was free of underground pipes/electrical conduit, etc. was considered. Jimmy Martinez was not available to answer questions. Members requested this agenda item be placed on the September meeting agenda for Jimmy’s input. Jerry Dumont made the motion to postpone further discussion and place the item on the September agenda. Greg Cardarelli seconded. Motion was approved. 11. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding possible purchase and design of a Veterans Memorial Banner by Beverly Baker. Jerry Paradise provided a picture of a banner (see attached) for the committee to consider. The description of the banner: ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes August 15, 2024 3 • Size, 3’x5’ • Heavy duty fabric for outside use • 8 brass gromets • Banner phrase: Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee established 2006. • Cost: $45.00 Members liked the banner and thought it was a great idea. Bruce Cox and Frank Carbone volunteered to donate the money to cover the cost. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the banner, phrasing, and materials. Beverly Baker seconded. Motion passed. 12. Discuss any updates for October Thank You BBQ for Building and Grounds Crew. Date will be October 24, 2024. BBQ will be held at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Bruce Cox and Greg Cardarelli will double check the gas grill propane tank prior to the BBQ. 13. General Public Comment (Second). None. 14. Committee Comment (Second). None. 15. Announcements (Second). • The next meeting of the PVMAC will be September 19, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa cemetery. Alice Lübbers discussed committee members renewal status. majority of our members will expire December 2024 and/or early 2025. The only exception is Jerry Paradise. To decrease confusion and keep all members current, we will conduct membership renewal voting at the September meeting. Note: The committee Chair and Vice Chair were briefed prior to today’s meeting. 16. Adjournment.
