PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT September 12, 2019 Pursuant to NRS, a meeting of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee was held at 8:00AM on July 11, 2019 at 400 N. Hwy 160 Pahrump, NV 89060. 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Horton at 8:02 am in the conference room at 400 N. Hwy 160. 2. Roll Call Attendees: PTAC members - James Horton, Karen Spalding, Debbie Davis, Bonnie Bates, Catherine Tillett, Jack Sanders, Ambrose Kroetsch, and Kellie Graham. Tourism Director - Arlette Ledbetter with Alexandra Crow. PTAC Liaison – John Koenig, BOCC. Lynn Peterson was excused. Guests - Bob Adams; Deanna O’Donnell, KPVM TV and K-ACE 95.9; Frank Best in the West; Ken Johnson, Vegas – The Network; Rob and Peggy Szydowski, RPS Media Concepts; Christine Butler, Copy She Wrote, LLC.; Jenney Sartin, Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce; Donna Cory, PVCC; Teresa Parker, Pahrump Valley Properties; Carrie Nye, PVP; Vern Van Winkle, KPVM TV and Ana Tadeo, PTown Deliveries. 3. Approval of the Agenda for Sept. 12, 2019 Agenda approved by consent. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person). Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item. (FIRST) Ken Johnson, Vegas-The Network, volunteered to share his knowledge of Item #10 as he is a former employee of VEA. Debbie Davis introduced Jenney Sartin, newly selected Executive Director of the PVCC and Donna Cory, PVCC’s Special Events Coordinator. Vern Van Winkle gave an update on the new radio show which will be aired in Las Vegas but have a segment on Pahrump. Bob Szydowski announced the opening of a new craft winery, Stone Wines, located across HWY 160 from Starbucks. Deanna O’Donnell reminded everyone of the Taco Festival on Oct. 12 at the Calvada Eye. 5. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION: Discussion and Deliberation of Minutes of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee meeting of July 11, 2019 Karen Spalding moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Jack Sanders seconded. Motion was approved unanimously. 6. ANNOUNCEMENTS (FIRST) ---PAGE BREAK--- Page 2 PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT September 12, 2019 Bob Adams, OHV/ATV Ambassador for PTAC, reported on future OVH activities in all areas of Nye County. John Koenig announced there will be a mandatory Open Meeting Law class in the near future for all committee members. Jack Sanders reported that the season’s last Sanders Family Winery Concert will take place October 17. James Horton reminded all that the PTAC is held to the same standards and protocol as any other County committee. 7. COMMITTEE COMMENTS (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshop/agendas) 8. Presentation by Ken Johnson, Vegas – The Network – gave a power point presentation on the 24/7 television start up that is ready to launch. Streaming sites in Pahrump for OVH, RV sites and more. Also looking for advertisers. 9. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation regarding Tourism Director’s update, activity reports and projects Arlette presented her reports for this quarter. Along with the distribution of copies of the Town of Pahrump Summary of FY 2020 Projects and the Executive Summary, Arlette gave the Braintrust recap. 10. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation to possibly spearhead and organize the proposed community center project with Valley Electric Association, subject to the feasibility of that development John Koenig announced the BOCC has this item on their meeting’s agenda. Jack Sanders read a statement regarding this issue. 11. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second) Jenney Sartin reported on changes at the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce. Ken Johnson, former VEA employee gave brief comments on the proposed VEA community center. Ana Tadeo introduced her new business PTown Deliveries. 12. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Second) Bob Adams reported on a public land sale in Debbie Davis announced a new staycation program at Mountain Falls. Jack Sanders complimented the town on the clean up along HWY160 in downtown. John Koenig said it was done to make the town more attractive and provides more parking. Deanna O’Donnell announced there were 11 tons of trash picked up during her Pahrump Clean Up Project. They are planning on repeating the project in December. Alex Crow requested photos of town events be sent to her for use in the town’s website. Arlette proudly announced the “Pahrump” sign is now part of the “Sign Forest” in Washington. Alex is working on a Christmas activity for the town. Donna Corey reported there are still sponsorships available for the Fall Festival. The next PTAC meeting will be November 7 at 8:00 a.m. at 400 N. Hwy 160. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
