Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes July 18, 2024 1 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Bruce Cox, Chairman. Location: Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the June 2024 meeting minutes and the July 2024 agenda were provided. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Bruce Cox, Chair, Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Jerry Paradise, Greg Cardarelli, Stephen Hall, and Jerry Dumont. Absent: Eddie Williams, excused. Dina Williamson-Erdag, unexcused. Commissioner Frank Carbone and Jimmy Martiez, Building and Grounds supervisor were present. No Public attendees. 3. Approval of the Agenda for July 18, 2024. Jerry Paradise made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Stephen Hall seconded. Motion was approved. No public input. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). None. No Public input. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes for the June 20, 2024. Jerry Paradise made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Beverly Baker seconded. Motion was approved. No public comment. 6. Announcements (First). • Annual Thank You BBQ Date, Thursday October 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. For members who are participating, please have your $25.00 contribution to Jerry Paradise by September 19, 2024. • Committee membership renewal applications will be provided at the August 15, 2024 Veterans meeting. Members will need to complete their application form prior to leaving the meeting. 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out- of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman, or Activities Coordinators. Glass Cabinet and 911 Flag updates were provided by Jimmy Martinez. The glass cabinet will be delivered to Jimmy’s office July 23, 2024. Jimmy will inspect the cabinet for damage and the integrity of materials. Once approved, the cabinet will be moved to the Veterans Building lobby to complete assembly. The 911 Flag shadow box costs $200 for materials. A glass pane will be used in place of plexiglass. Building and Grounds crew will assemble the flag box. No ETA for the box completion was provided. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. None. 10. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding a new structure to hold the outdoor glass door marquee and other items. Alice Lübbers showed a picture (see attached picture) of a two-post structure with a roof to cover multiple mailboxes as a sample. Jerry Paradise had drawn a two-post structure with a roof, list of materials, and dimensions for members to consider, (see attached drawing). Jerry stated the roof shingles will be a dark slate color and the structure painted to match the building color scheme. Committee members liked the drawing. Beverly Baker made the motion to accept Jerry’s drawing. Stephan Hall seconded. Motion was approved. Jimmy will take the plans for a building permit and construction approval. The possible locations of the structure will be on the August agenda. 11. Discuss Thank You BBQ for Building and Grounds crew on Thursday October 24, 2024. The date is Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The DAVA will donate money for water and soda. The menu will be hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ beans, chips, macaroni salad, sodas, water, and brownies for dessert. This is a voluntary activity. Donations from members are $25.00 each. Please give your donation to Jerry Paradise by the September meeting. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes July 18, 2024 3 12. General Public Comment (second). No public input. 13. Committee Comment (second). None. 14. Announcements(second). The annual Purple Heart ceremony is August 7, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial. The next meeting of the PVMAC will be August 15, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at the Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa cemetery. 15. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned by Bruce Cox, Chairman at 4:38 p.m.
