PNWEAC Minutes March 6, 2020 Pursuant to NRS, a meeting of the Pahrump Nuclear Waste and Environmental Advisory Committee was held March 6, 2020 at 11:30 A.M at the Chief Tecopa Cemetery conference room. 1 Committee Members in attendance: John Pawlak, Bill Stremmel, Debra Perna, Dale Griffith, Bob Adams, Dan Schinhofen, Mike Smith, Also present: Mary Fisher, Heather Freeman, Stormy Ingersoll, Landon Ingersoll, Deborah Aitken, Leo Blundo 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order 2. Roll Call 3. Approval of the Agenda for March 6, 2020. yay, 0 nay 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). Heather Freeman working on committee for Earth Day 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of Minutes of the Pahrump Nuclear Waste and Environmental Advisory Committee meeting of February 6, 2020. 7 yay 0 nay, Dan resolution under item 13 from February 14 agenda 6. Announcements (First) CDC COVID19 guidelines distributed by John Pawlak 7. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). Bob Adams and Mike Smith discussed the possibility of additional community involvement in Pahrump clean up activities. How do we get Casinos and local businesses involved? John Pawlak pointed out that the Clean Up Pahrump organization frequently organizes events and that all are welcome to participate. ---PAGE BREAK--- PAHRUMP NUCLEAR WASTE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT MARCH 6, 2020 2 ITEM NO. 7 CONTINUED Mike Smith indicated that Heather has already requested an additional dumpster and John Pawlak pointed out that Clean Up Pahrump actually transports waste to the landfills. Dan Schinhofen mentioned that at one time these were community events. John Pawlak followed up that we should find different ways to promote these activities. Dan Schinhofen stated his intention to produce an action proposal for the next meeting. Don Adams stated he will bring materials for discussion. 8. For possible Action - Discussion and deliberation – Regarding the meeting day and time of the Pahrump Nuclear Waste & Environmental Advisory Committee. Bob Adams requested this item be moved to the end of the agenda. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Friday, April 3’rd. In addition, John Pawlak advised that there is a special Earth Day Event meeting scheduled for Friday, April 10th. 9. For possible Action – Discussion and deliberation – Further Planning of Earth Day/Arbor Day 2020. Debby Woodland is producing community flyers. BOA will be providing shredders, there will be an electronic waste receptacle available. Mike Smith indicated that there will be ample toilets, handwashing stations and waste bins. John Pawlak discussed the following: Plaque and yearly award for the Environmental Committee community recipient. Solar cooking presentation Discussion and information on microplastics Bamboo toothbrushes Chicago dogs for a donation while supplies last John will invite Debby Woodland as a guest to Community Viewpoint prior to the event John indicated that the event is a go barring State or Municipal cancellation/restriction mandates. ---PAGE BREAK--- PAHRUMP NUCLEAR WASTE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT MARCH 6, 2020 3 10. For possible Action - Discussion and deliberation - Regarding Environmental issues in Southern Nevada and within the Town of Pahrump to include comments to the Board of County Commissioners. Bill Stremmel discussed producing a white paper on aqua generators. 11. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation – Regarding Nuclear issues in Southern Nevada and within the Town of Pahrump to include comments to the Board of County Commissioners. By show a show of hands vote this item was vetoed. 12. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second) Heather mentioned that there is an Earth Day Event at Hafen Elementary at 9:30 am on…. Bob Adams mentioned that there is a Pahrump Valley 4 Wheelers event on March 17th at 8am focusing on birdcage repair and also that there is a Big Dunes cleanup in Amargosa on March 21st. 13.
