PAHRUMP VETERANS MEMORIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE DRAFT MINUTES February 17, 2022 Pursuant to NRS, a meeting of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee was held on February 17, 2022, at 4:00pm at the Bob Ruud Community Center. 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:00pm. 2. Roll Call Chair Carl Jones, Co-chair Alice Lubbers, Secretary Dina Williamson-Erdag, Beverly Baker, Greg Cardarelli, Stephen Hall (arrived late), Jannis Saunders, Bruce Cox, Eddie Williams, Liaison Frank Carbone, and Jimmy Martinez, 3. Approval of the agenda for February 17, 2022. Beverly Baker made the motion to approve the agenda as presented, Greg Cardarelli seconded. Motion passed 8-0. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (first). None. 5. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation of minutes of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee, meeting of January 20, 2022. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to approve the minutes from the January 20, 2022, meeting as presented, Jannis Saunders seconded. Motion passed 8-0. 6. Announcements (first) Beverly Baker reminded everybody about the Veterans Extravaganza being held on Marcy 4, 2022, 10am-2pm, at the Ruud Center. There will be food and lots of information available to Veterans. 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out-of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman or Activities Coordinators. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding the assignment/re- assignment of Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee members onto sub- committees. Carl Jones announced that all members of this committee should choose two or three sub- committees to work on. The sub-committee volunteer form was passed among the members to make their selection. Carl Jones will review the names on the sub-committee sheet and make adjustments as needed. This item will appear on the March 2022 for approval. 9. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas) Dina Williamson Erdag stated that the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Committee voice recorder is missing. Jimmy Martinez texted Courtney and she said she had it in her office. Alice Lubbers volunteered to pick it up from Courtney. Dina Williamson Erdag announced that all members of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Committee are required to attend an Open Meeting Law Training. Three are scheduled, and a copy of the County Managers memo with the dates, times, locations, and details for attending. All Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee members were asked to email Dina Williamson Erdag, the secretary, confirming they had attended an OML session. 10. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation of certificates of appreciation and plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee. A presentation of a certificate, coasters, and pins will be made to Joe’s Sanitation at the March meeting. No requests for additional certificates or plaques were made. 11. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding preparing a flyer and/or other marketing material to advertise the Columbarium and In-Ground burials at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial. Stephen Hall did not have the information he was preparing ready for discussion. This agenda item will appear again on the March 17, 2022, meeting agenda. Carl Jones asked Stephen Hall to send the secretary a copy of his information so that it can be distributed prior to the meeting. 12. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding the preparation of amendments to the Veterans Memorial Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to include guidelines for types of decorations that can be placed on the gravesite and columbarium areas in the Veterans section of the Chief Tecopa Cemetery. These amendments to include the timeframe that decoration placement can remain, along with a description of how decorations will be disposed of and by whom. ---PAGE BREAK--- PAHRUMP VETERANS MEMORIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE DRAFT MINUTES February 17, 2022 Beverly Baker was prepared to discuss this agenda item with the committee but did not have copies of her information for each member to review. She was asked to send copies to send to the secretary so that it can be distributed to members prior to the meeting. This agenda item will appear again on the March 17, 2022, meeting agenda. 13. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding wood repair and staining maintenance of the pergolas at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial. Jimmy Martinez has the list of required wood repairs and staining maintenance need for the pergolas at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial, he said the work had not yet been completed due to un-favorable weather conditions. Carl Jones provided free paint received from Home Depot, and Jimmy said he would purchase more paint, same color so it should match, if it was needed. Jimmy said this work is scheduled for March and should be completed prior to the next Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting. Carl Jones asked that this agenda item be included on the March 17, 2022, meeting agenda. 14. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (second). None. 15. COMMITTEE COMMENTS (second) Stephen Hall apologized for arriving to the meeting late. Frank Carbone said that he was disappointed that some of the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee members at this meeting have been disrespectful to the chair’s efforts to conduct the meeting. This Committee is subject to NRS rules, and as such members need to act in a professional and respectful manner. 16. ANNOUNCEMENTS (second). None. 17. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 4:51pm.
