1 Pursuant to NRS, a meeting of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee was held at 8:00AM on June 6, 2019 at 400 N. Hwy 160 Pahrump, NV 89060. 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Horton at 8:03 am in the conference room at 400 N. Hwy 160. 2. Roll Call Attendees: PTAC members - James Horton, Karen Spalding, Debbie Davis, Bonnie Bates, Catherine Tillett, Jack Sanders. Tourism Director - Arlette Ledbetter with Alexandra Crow. PTAC Liaison – John Koenig, BOCC. Guests - Bob Adams; Kellie Graham, Silverton Hotel Casino, Pahrump Ranch Project; and Deanna O’Donnell, KPVM TV and K-ACE 95.9. John Koenig announced himself as the new PTAC Liaison. Excused – Ambrose Kroetsch and Lynn Peterson. 3. Approval of the Agenda for June 6, 2019 Agenda approved. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person). Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item. (FIRST) Arlette Ledbetter asked that the guests introduce themselves. 5. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION: Discussion and Deliberation of Minutes of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee meeting of March 14, 2019 Karen Spalding moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Jack Sanders seconded. Motion was approved unanimously. 6. ANNOUNCEMENTS (FIRST) None 7. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation regarding Tourism Director’s update, activity reports and projects Arlette presented her reports for this quarter. In addition, she noted PAC will become a focus this coming year with an emphasis on a future venue for a Pahrump art museum. The Visitor Survey becomes a reality on the June 10th kick off. The summer survey period will run from June thru July followed by the winter period from Sept. 15 to Nov. 15. Arlette, also, announced that she and Alex are prevented by law from sending out to email addresses collected at shows. They can send out information from the Pahrump properties, if so desired. New emphasis is going to be directed to national focus in lieu of international as in the past. However, Arlette and Karen attended a show in Montreal recently that was a phenomenal success. Eastern Canada has been a much more viable target lately as opposed to Western Canada. 9. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation on Journey A to D Ambassador Program as part of the FY20 Budget. Arlette explained the Ambassador Program as presented in a written proposal in the PTAC packet of back up information. She is submitting for a $7500 matching grants in first cycle. If it is not awarded, she will submit the same in the 2nd cycle. 10. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation – To appoint Robert Adams as the OHV/ATV Ambassador for the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee. This is a volunteer job with an approved job description. Karen Spalding moved to recommend to the BOCC approval of Robert Adams as the OHV/ATV Ambassador for the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee. Jack Sanders seconded and the motion was approved unanimously. 11. PRESENTATION – Deanna O’Donnell, KPVM, regarding a partnership with Nye County on a film association. To build a library of available locations for filming movies, television shows, ads and such. Arlette volunteered to build a landing site on the PTAC website for the film association. Deanna volunteered to head it up for Pahrump and its surrounding areas. 12. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation of Marketing Project and Grant Applications in regards to the Budget FY20. ---PAGE BREAK--- PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT JUNE 6, 2019 3 Arlette reported that she has applied for $35,000 in grants. Because the large amount of submissions this year she is leery of receiving all of them. However, she can reapply in the second cycle for some that were not granted in first cycle. 13. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and deliberation to appoint one member to the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee. The applicants are Connie Jenkinson, Kellie Graham, Robert Adams, Philip Cratty and Frank It was announced that applications were received from Robert Adams, Pahrump Public Land Advisory Committee member; Philip Cratty, tourist industry; Frank Best in the West; Kellie Graham, Silverton Hotel Casino, Pahrump Ranch Project; and Connie Jenkinson, Mgr. Nevada Treasures RV Resort. Karen Spalding moved to recommend to the BOCC approval of Kellie Graham as an alternate to the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee. Debbie Davis seconded. The motion was unanimously approved. 14. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and deliberation a possible change in the PTAC meeting time. Jack Sanders moved to change the starting time of the PTAC meetings to 9:00 a.m. Bonnie Bates seconded. The motion was defeated. 15. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second) None 16. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Second) Arlette announced that Vern Van Winkle is in the development stage for a new tv channel focusing on Pahrump’s economic development, tourism and other subjects that can be channeled into Las Vegas as well as Las Vegas’ same interests pushed into Pahrump. The project is about a year away and Vern is looking for participants to advertise. Karen suggested that the hotel partners add the visitpahrump.com link to their advertising and websites. 17. ADJOURNMENT The next PTAC meeting will be Thursday, July 11 at 8:00 a.m. at 400 N. Hwy 160. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
