1 TOWN OF PAIIRUMP PROCLAMATION NO. P2021-03 2 A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING AUGUST 7, 2021 AS PURPLE HEART DAY IN THE TOWN OF PAHRUMP 3 4 WHEREAS, Nye County has long been a crucial home to the nation’s military defense, today with the 5 Nevada Test and Training Range, and the Nevada National Security Site; and 6 WHEREAS, Pahrump is part of the “Battle Born” State or Nevada, and the town’s residents have 7 selflessly accepted the responsibility to protect and defend our nation, the democratic principles it was founded 8 upon, and the lives and liberties of men, women and children around the world; and 9 WHEREAS, President George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit to honor brave military 10 personnel, and in 1932, on the 200th anniversary of Washington’s birth, the badge was renamed the Order of the 11 Purple Heart; and 12 WHEREAS, the Purple Heart is a combat decoration awarded to members of the anned forces of the 13 United States military who are wounded in conflict with an enemy force, and posthumously, to the next of kin in 14 the name of those killed in action or die of wounds received in action; and 15 WHEREAS, there have been many former Pahrump residents who made the ultimate sacrifice in giving 16 their lives in the cause of freedom, and there are those who have been awarded the Purple Heart who currently 17 reside within Pabrump; and 18 WHEREAS, the Town of Pahrump is honored to recognize all military members who have served, or are 19 currently serving, and is proud to recognize August 7, 2021 as a special tribute to those brave service members 20 who have received the Purple Heart. 21 NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Nye County Board of County Commissioners, sitting as the Governing 22 Body of the Unincorporated Town of Pahrump do hereby proclaim August 7, 2021, to be PURPLE HEART DAY 23 in Pahrump, Nevada. 24 I/I 25 Proclamation P2021-03 ---PAGE BREAK--- I APPROVED this 311 day of August. 2021.
