I TOWN OF PAHRUMP PROCLAMATION NO. P2021-02 2 A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 3, 2021 AS SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL PAHRUMP VALLEY DAY IN THE TOWN OF PAHRUMP, NYE COUNTY, NEVADA. 3 4 WHEREAS, the Soroptimist organization, founded on October 3, 1921, works to economically 5 empower women and girls through access to education; and 6 WHEREAS, the Soroptimist organization will celebrate it’s l00’ Anniversary in October, 2021; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, the Soroptirnist Pahrurnp Valley has been an integral part of the Pahrurnp 9 community for the past 15 years; and 10 WHEREAS, the Soroptirnist Pahrump Valley has improved the lives of Pahrurnp women and 11 girls by: 12 • Disbursing approximately $10,000 in Soroptiniist Live Your Dream Awards® to local women to 13 help them get the education and training they need to improve their employment prospects and 14 economic standing 15 • Holding an annual Soroptimist Dream It, Be It® event that has helped put 125 local high school 16 girls on the path toward achieving their career goals 17 • Administrating a Certified Nursing Assistant, CNA, scholarship program that has provided 18 almost $80,000 in funding to local women who want to begin a career in the nursing field 19 • Sponsoring a Women’s Health and Weliness Fair that provides information from local vendors 20 and service providers to assist women and girls with health care needs and questions 21 • Providing financial support to women in local transitional housing who are receiving treatment 22 for drug/alcohol addiction. These funds were applied for and received from a Soroptimist District 23 Grant 24 25 Proclamat ion P2021-02 ---PAGE BREAK--- • Providing a $1,000 donation to the local Pre-Kindergarten campus for the purchase of age- 2 appropriate books to stock their on-campus library. These funds were applied for and received 3 from a Soroptimist District Grant 4 • Sponsoring an annual art contest for local high school students to help encouraging a community 5 awareness of Human Trafficking. We utilize social media to broadcast our message to share 6 awareness of and action against Human Trafficking. Our members work with other local sex 7 trafficking and domestic violence organizations to get women the legal and economic resources 8 they need to break free from their former lives 9 • Soroptimist: (suh-rop-tuh-mist) Our name means “best for women”.
