In the Trenches: Pictured left County Commissioners Yohe and Burroughs receiving a briefing on the Otsego Lake Drain Control Valve from Tim Johnson the State Foreman. The Otsego County Road Commission Engineering assessment will instruct us on steps to take to keep this functioning. The Otsego County Bus System is a vital resource for many in our local community. Our students, seniors, folks with special needs and many others count on our “people movers” to get to school, work, medical appointments and grocery shopping each and every day. Our County Bus is helping to preserve people’s independence and mobility even in the thick of winter to protect the quality of life for so many. Thank you to the drivers, aids, dispatchers and mechanic who make it possible. Yes, summer has finally arrived to Northern Michigan. Our Otsego County Government Building on West Main Street in beautiful downtown Gaylord. Come visit us soon! It takes a special kind of strength to be a Corrections Officer (CO). After all, most of your customers are probably not happy to see you. As a CO you are very likely to be verbally abused or even attacked by those in your charge. It’s often long hours and sometimes days with routine procedures followed by sudden volatile unrest. Still 24/7 this group of steady professionals dawn the black uniform of the CO unit and serve our community both day and night. Note from Marlene Hopp, Otsego County Veterans Service Officer. We currently have approximately 2,009 Veterans receiving $26,218.00 in VA Benefits. I know we have many more Veterans and surviving spouses in Otsego County and we are trying to reach each one to assist them to file for these benefits that they deserve. It’s my privilege to serve the Veterans in our community, including outreach efforts recently with David Bowman from EGLE (Pictured) Even though some Veterans have returned, some still are battling the war. May people be kind hearted each day, especially to Veterans. Vital aircraft accident training was held at our Otsego County, Gaylord Regional Airport. Several fire departments in our Northern Region participated in this life saving course. (No hazardous chemicals used) . “Traditions Await at Alpenfest 58” July 11th - 15th. Many Main Street shops plan to dawn the Alpine attire this year & some offer discounts to those dressed up. 2nd Qtr. 2023 Meet Greg Kates who is the new School Resource Officer (SRO) Johannesburg-Lewiston. Deputy Kates has been a Deputy with the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office for going on 7 years now. Deputy Kates has enjoyed his new position with the school and loves working with the kids and staff at JLS. It’s all about Kids!
