Over the past 14 months, your Sheriff working with the County and its Commissioners have been able to with grant assistance, add a deputy to the Sheriff’s department to staff a School Resource Officer at Johannesburg Schools, purchase new shotguns, new handguns, new computers (which some of the previous computers were over a decade old), a new Work Camp Van (previous Work Camp van was 16 years old), new trailer for ATVs and snowmobiles, new Tasers, new software, in addition to other support equipment also added a new additional part-time Civil Officer, and approval for a new deputy vehicle in 2024. The County is here to serve! 4th Qtr. 2023 Veterans Day Events: Commissioner John Turnbull (Army Major Retired) was the guest speaker at our veteran’s memorial. (Pictured top of page) The County Building lit up as part of “Operation Green Light” supporting all our veterans around the nation. Hundreds attended the return of Jen Akans annual Message of Thanks lunch and I was pleased to be asked once again to be the Master of Ceremonies. We hosted the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Otsego County Course, Government Module. Business owners and managers from around the community received tours of City and County Departments and briefings from Government leaders. A visit to our jail included. Prosecuting Attorney Mike Rola and his team wishes everyone a very Happy New Year! Meet Tonya Caverly who has been serving our community, working for the County Transportation Department since 1996. In those 28 years, Tonya has been a part of thousands of people’s daily lives that have relied on her for help getting to work, to school, medical appointments, or just going shopping or visits with family. It was truly my honor to present Tonya with the County Challenge Coin for excellent service and to learn about some of her experiences on the job. Tonya also wanted me to know that Tim Cherwinski is the best Bus Director she The New Year is filled with promise and although we stay neutral with sporting events we need to praise the County Team that does the share of the counties heavy lifting. ay your road ahead be smooth and full of joy this year!
