My Watch is Over: The military has a tradition which reminds us we only stand “The Watch” for a short time until we hand The Watch over to those we have led. It is with some hesitation but mostly excitement that with the support of my family I have decided to retire for the second time. In actuality I have only had two jobs in my life. The first was about 23 years of active duty military service which kept my family and I overseas for almost 12 years between assignments in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The second job was 18 years of county government service. Starting at the Sheriff’s Office to 14 years at the Gaylord Regional Airport to the last 3 as the Otsego County Administrator. These 41 years combined gave me the opportunity to meet and work with some extraordinary people and I will truly miss working alongside many of you as you continue to navigate the County into the future. My wife Holly and I will be celebrating our 40th wedding Anniversary next year and although Gaylord will remain our home we have family and friends all over the country to go visit. This community we serve is still the greatest place I have ever lived and its people the kindest. I never forget how blessed I am to be able to live here in Otsego County. Thank you for the privilege to serve it. To my County Team, you now have The Watch! Brian Abel: Is a County Airport/Building and Grounds Specialist and has been working at our airport for 12 years. Very few people can say they work at an airport in Gaylord and Brian is one of the best! FINAL ISSUE July 2025
