Major League: Our very own Major Jon Turnbull now County Commissioner Turnbull throws out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers game. The then Captain Turnbull was severely wounded in 2019 during ground operations in Syria and together with his wife, Samantha wrote a book appropriately called “Zero Percent Chance” which details Jon and his fallen team’s almost impossible mission to return a community in Syria back to its people. After a suicide bomber attack, Jon was given a zero percent chance of survival but with his wife and a list of soldiers, doctors and many more, Jon is once again serving his Country, now as a County Commissioner! Otsego County’s Gaylord Regional Airport runway rehabilitation project is halfway to completion. Old pavement being repurposed for an airport perimeter road (pic L) as new pavement takes its place on its main runway 9/27. 30 Years on the Job: Not everyone has what it takes to serve 3 decades in County Government but Susan Defeyter has done just that! Starting in the Clerk’s Office in 1994 Suzy was elected as County Clerk in 2005. The County Clerk has the responsibility for the care, custody, and maintenance of all Circuit Court records, and is the Clerk to the Jury Commission; the Board of Canvassers; the Concealed Weapons Licensing Board; and is a member of the Special Election Scheduling Committee; the County Election Commission; and is the Chief Election Official for the County. Suzy also runs the Register of Deeds Office, which is the keeper of all documents pertaining to the transfer or encumbrance of real estate in the county. Suzy’s professionalism and earned operational expertise makes her one of the most knowledgeable in the State! Our building and Grounds Maintenance Department has done a fantastic job getting our County Building ready for summer. Thanks to our Plans and Programs Director Thom Marquard for working to get our fountain back up and running. This has become a focal point of downtown and even a place for military reenlistment ceremonies 2nd Qtr. 2024
