1 Ogden Redevelopment Agency Work Session: August 29, 2017 OGDEN CITY ECONOMIC 3D MODEL AND LAND USE STUDY - Urban3 Presentation Purpose ofWork Session: To Receive a Presentation Regarding the Economic Revenue Model for Ogden City Developed by Urban3, LLC Executive Summary Joseph Minicozzi of Urban3, LLC (U3) will present information regarding the development of an economic model for Ogden City and the surrounding areas. Background December 5, 2016 The Administration invited Joseph Minicozzi of Urban 3, LLC, a planning and development firm located in Asheville, North Carolina, to present Urban3’s data-driven approach in developing an effective regional economic development model. Members of the Weber Area Council of Governments (WACOG), the Ogden City Council, and other interested City partners were invited to attend. That presentation can be viewed here. April 12, 2017 The Administration entered into a contract with Urban3, LLC to create an economic revenue mode for Ogden City. (A copy of the contract is attached.) April-August 2017 U3 gathered an analyzed data to develop an economic revenue model for Ogden City. Urban3, LLC Urban 3, LLC (U3) is a private consulting firm specializing in land value economics, property and retail tax analysis and community design. The firm works to empower communities with the ability to promote development patterns that improve fiscal condition while reinforcing a stronger sense of place. This space, created by the built environment, is the basis of urban design. U3 strives to provide a deeper understanding of this environment by measuring data and visualizing its results. U3’s parent company, Public Interest Projects, Inc. (PIP) – a for-profit real estate development company – has over twenty years of operating experience in Asheville, NC. The company has been responsible for the renovation of numerous properties, along with providing financial and management support for more than 18 downtown businesses. PIP’s work has been recognized locally, regionally and internationally. Urban3 was created by PIP as an independent consulting firm with a mission to bring a data-driven approach to the practice of building community. For more information, please see U3’s website here. Proposal The Administration has contracted with Urban3, LLC to complete a study regarding the productivity of land uses in the community. U3 has mapped Ogden’s property tax generation and will discuss findings and how this information can be used as an economic driver in land use decisions. Joseph Minicozzi of U3 will share his experience in government, real estate finance and architecture, using the information from U3’s study of Ogden to show how the City’s policy makers can continue to shape the future of Ogden.
