Page 1 of 1 Ogden City Council Work Session: March 21, 2017 APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Action: Adopt or Not Adopt Resolution Executive Summary The City Council’s Executive Director position is currently vacant and needs to be filled. A Council action will determine the selection of a new Executive Director. Background The Council’s process for hiring a new Executive Director has included the completion of an extensive, nationwide search and posting the position throughout various national and local recruitment organizations. Selected candidates were invited to meet with a screening committee that was made up of representatives from various local organizations and finalists interviewed with the City Council. Proposal Upon completing the selection process, the adoption of this resolution determines the Council’s new Executive Director. Council Staff Contact: Amy Sue Mabey, (801)629-8629 ---PAGE BREAK--- 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2017-10 A RESOLUTION OF THE OGDEN CITY COUNCIL APPOINTING A NEW CITY COUNCIL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND PROVIDING THAT THIS RESOLUTION SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UPON FINAL PASSAGE. WHEREAS, on January 20, 2017, Bill Cook, who had served as the City Council’s Executive Director for more than 15 years, announced his intent to retire effective February 25, 2017; and WHEREAS, the City launched an extensive, nationwide search for a new Executive Director, posting the position with the International City/County Management Association, National League of Cities and Towns, Utah Division of Workforce Services and other recruitment organizations; and WHEREAS, the selection process for the Executive Director position involved interviews with an initial screening committee that consisted of representatives from various local organizations. Finalists were selected and interviewed with the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Executive Director of the City Council position was vacated before the selection process could be completed, and the City Council appointed Janene-Eller Smith as Interim Council Executive Director; and WHEREAS, following the completion of the selection process, the City Council has determined that is the best candidate to fill this position and desires that he or she be appointed City Council Executive Director; and WHEREAS, has consented to accept the position and to serve as Executive Director of the City Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE OGDEN CITY COUNCIL does hereby appoint as City Council Executive Director effective March 22, 2017. The said appointment shall be for an indefinite period with commensurate responsibilities, salary and benefits associated with the position.
