Page 1 of 1 Ogden City Council Meeting: May 23, 2017 RECOGNIZING SPANISH SPELLING BEE AND LANGUAGE TALENT COMPETITION WINNERS Action: None Summary This is a request to recognize the winners of the third annual Weber State University Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities Spanish Spelling Bee and Language Talent Competition: First Place: Lauren Cornell Second Place: Neriah Brotherson Third Place: Lily Mcpherson This competition aims to promote the Spanish language, bilingual education, broadening of vocabulary, heightening of literacy and public speaking skills, and empowering students to develop and showcase their academic and linguistic skills. Utah elementary and junior high students ranging from the 4th to 8th grade participated in this year’s spelling bee competition. Faculty in Residence at the Weber State University Center for Community Engaged Learning Isabel Asensio will be present to address the benefits of the spelling bee and the student winners will be present to accept the recognitions.
