Ogden City Customer Service Center 2549 Washington Blvd. Suite 240 Ogden, Utah 84401-3102 Phone: (801) 629-8959 Handyman Information Any person engaged in the construction trades licensed under Title 58, Chapter 55 of the Utah Construction Trades Act, or a contractor regulated under that Chapter is required to be licensed under that Act unless specifically exempted under Section 58-55-305. The appropriate section of the exemption commonly referred to as “The Handyman Exclusion” is listed below: A person engaged in the alteration, repair, remodeling, or addition to or improvement of any building with a contracted or agreed value of less than $1000, including both labor and materials, and including all changes or additions to the contracted or agreed-upon work, however, work in the plumbing and electrical trades shall be performed by a licensed electrician or plumber regardless of the dollar value of the work. Compliance with The Utah State Law is the responsibility of the person claiming the exemption. Possession of an Ogden City business license with the category of “handyman” will not permit the licensee to operate in violation of State Law. Maintenance is defined under the Utah State Administrative Code as: R156-55a-102 Definitions: maintenance means the repair, replacement and refinishing of any component of an existing structure; but does not include alteration or modification to the existing weight-bearing structural components.
