1 Ogden City Council Work Session: May 30, 2017 PRESENTATION FROM CITY RECORDER REGARDING THE 2017 ELECTION PROCESS Purpose of Work Session: Receive a presentation from Tracy Hansen, Ogden City Recorder, regarding the 2017 Election process Background Tracy Hansen, MMC/CRA, Ogden’s City Recorder, has been invited to attend the Council’s May 30, 2017 work session to discuss the upcoming 2017 municipal election. Ms. Hansen will present information to the Council with regard to the vote by mail (VBM) process and other information related to the upcoming election. This will include a discussion of pros and cons of vote by mail, anticipated voting centers, and the fiscal impact of the election. In addition to the presentation regarding the 2017 election, this is an opportunity for Council members to ask questions and discuss other issues related to elections and the election process. The 2017 elections include races for City Council Wards 1 and 3 and for At-large seats A and C. It is anticipated that a primary election will be needed for some or all of these seats. The date for the primary election is scheduled for August 15, 2017. The general election is scheduled for November 7, 2017. Ogden City is currently contracting with Weber County to run the election process this year. The FY2018 proposed budget includes $60,000 for the 2017 elections. The transmittal information attached outlines anticipated costs to the City given several election scenarios. Attachments 1.
