Newsletter Date Ogden City Corp TIMES 650 25th Street – Ogden, UT 84401 - (801) 629-8864 July 2017 ~ Volume 25~ Issue 7 Ogden Golden Hours SUPERVISOR’S CORNER By Bob Geier July is National Beans and Franks Month July is National Baked Beans and Hot Dog month; can it get any better than this? Beans and Franks every- body’s favorite summer fare! To me throw in some homemade Potato Salad and you have one heckuva sum- mer barbeque. To myself that is a memory that goes back to my earliest years. The delayed anticipation as my Dad would work for hours trying to get the charcoal grill lit! I remember the odd taste of the hotdogs after, out of total frustration, my dad would pour volumes of the in- famous fire starter in an attempt to expedite the fire. The small quart can, that stated boldly, do not use after lighting of the fire. Even as a kid I thought how odd that my dad a volunteer fireman for our community would resort to throwing a cup of gas on the bbq to really get things going! But once going roasting the hot dogs to just the right color was an art form that required the attention and ability to roll the hot dogs every thirty seconds or so. Mom would always serve up her special baked beans. Well they started out of a can, but she would add pork or bacon, onions, molasses more brown sugar and make them her very own special recipe. Even when we would go camping, beans and franks, a combination of an old Coleman stove and a campfire was all we needed to have a great outing. Find a willow branch, take off the bark and leave just a bit of branch so when cooking the hot dog on the campfire the dog would not fall off into the fire. Oh, those were the days. Bob Beginning Monday, July 3rd, the parking lot will be under construction. We WILL BE OPEN for regular business hours during the process. Please use caution as you go through the parking lot at this time. Call the center for assistance at 801-629- 8864 and we will gladly come help you. ---PAGE BREAK--- GOLDEN HOURS NEWSLETTER This newsletter is produced by the Golden Hours Center staff and is available at no cost to Center participants.
