Newsletter Date Ogden City Corp TIMES 650 25th Street – Ogden, UT 84401 - (801) 629-8864 February 2017 ~ Volume 25~ Issue 2 Ogden Golden Hours SUPERVISOR’S CORNER By Bob Geier February is National Bird Feeding Month! This is a great time to take care of our feathered friends that choose to be year round residents of Utah. Did you know that the Ogden Nature Center has recorded 149 different spe- cies of birds at their facility at 966 West 12th St. The Nature Center features over 150 acres of sanctuary for all of our na- tive birds and animals. This time of year, especially with the heavy snow and moisture we have experienced can be a chal- lenge for our year round bird friends like the Mountain Chickadee featured above. You can help by putting out a bird feeder! Even something as simple as a dish with seeds! The chicka- dee’s love Black Oil Sunflower seeds that can be purchased at most pet stores and even Wal-Mart, in small bags. If you want to buy in bulk like my wife and I do, IFA and Cal Ranch sells 50 pound bags that last us for quite a while. If you like the Jays, buy some unsalted peanuts, they will go crazy for them! They make an assortment of feeders, that are really not too expensive though for February we will have a drawing for some bird feeders and seed, so some of you can begin to enjoy watching our cold weather resi- dent birds up close, at the same time making their life a little easier during the harsh winter months. And if you have an opportunity go visit the Nature Center and enjoy that natural jewel just few miles from our center. P.S. another great place to watch birds due to the variety of mature trees is the Ogden City Cemetery just a few blocks from our center. TAX ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE! Beginning February 15, Golden Hours Senior Center (650 25th Street, Ogden) and our partner AARP, will be offering free tax assistance to our senior community. Tax appointments will be available every Wednesday throughout tax season. This free service is to assist those who have ques- tions, or do not have access to computers to generate their own returns. Okay everyone, Guess Who is a game in which we will make a few statements about one of our mem- bers, and the first one to guess who that member is will win a prize. This means you have to engage yourself and learn about other folks here at the center. That’s right, you need to move around at lunch time and question other people in an attempt to get the right information to learn enough about other members so you can make an educated guess. The first one to come to Bob with the right answer will win a special prize! The individual who is the topic of the game will not be eligible. That would be too easy. Okay everyone, a new Guess Who clue. Clue 1: Loves to read Clue 2: a previous tap and ballet dancer Clue 3: Likes playing volleyball Clue 4: Has given a boy a bloody nose Clue 5: This person does Stipple Drawings Clue 6: Likes to visit the coral pink sand dunes Page 6 Looking for Some Volunteers! Golden Hours is in need of some volunteers to help at the Front Desk. Our volunteers are vital to the operation of our center. A friendly face and kind words always help to brighten our member’s day. Task include answering phones and taking questions relative to our facility and services or selling some of our wares to make some money for the center. Want to help us make a difference or know someone at home that would be a great volunteer at the front desk or the Opp Shop, then have them come in and see one of the staff and we will work with them on finding the perfect fit.
