April 15, 2011 RE: Potential Flooding along Big and Little Cottonwood Creeks Dear Property Owners, Service Groups and Interested Parties: You are invited to attend a meeting to discuss Murray City’s plans to limit potential damage in the event we experience flooding along Big and Little Cottonwood Creeks. The Meeting will be held on April 26, 2011 at 7:00 PM in the Hillcrest Junior High School auditorium, 126 East 5300 South. Murray City staff will share information about the City’s past and current preparations. We will also be discussing sand bagging, volunteer opportunities, areas of concern, as well as up-to-date information available at that time. For you information, the City is working with Salt Lake County on two volunteer sand bagging events: Saturday, May 7 and Saturday, May 14, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the south end of the Murray Park amphitheater parking lot, located at approximately 455 East 5300 South. Please bring your own shovel for filling bags and a truck for transporting filled bags. Flooding along the Big and Little Cottonwood Creeks is anticipated to be several weeks away, usually late-May through early-June. However, if you want to begin immediate preparation, property owners and volunteers may contact Salt Lake County Public Works dispatch at [PHONE REDACTED], or stop their shops at 7125 South 600 West and pick up 25 filled sand bags. If you need additional sand bags, you will need to fill them on your own and will be available at the site. For questions regarding Murray City flooding plans, please call Battalion Chief, Randy Willden, at [PHONE REDACTED]. Your participation is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Daniel C. Snarr Mayor
