MURRAY CITY CORPORATION Murray City Municipal Building 5025 S State Street Murray, Utah 84107-4824 JOB DESCRIPTION Title: WATER TECHNICIAN II Department: Public Works/Water Class Code: 8650 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date: August 30, 1985 (Rev. 02/2023) GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision from a Water Technician IV, performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work for Murray City’s Water Distribution System. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Repairs and replaces broken pipes, water mains, valving, fire hydrants, sample stations, fittings, meters, vaults, boxes, and other critical water infrastructure. • Provides skilled and semi-skilled labor while installing water main on water main replacement projects. • May operate necessary light, medium, and heavy equipment, equipment attachments and hand/power tools. Assists Water Technician IV with the maintenance of tools and equipment. Reports any mechanical problems to Supervisor or Fleet Supervisor. • Checks vehicles and service trucks to ensure they are stocked with parts and are in proper and safe operation; performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs; reports mechanical problems to Supervisor or Water Technician IV. • Hauls sand, road base, gravel, trench spoils and general debris to and from locations within and without the city limits. Assists in preventive maintenance for flood control. • Maintains Murray City Water Facilities, landscape improvements, irrigation installs and repairs, concrete replacement, snow removal and all other necessary work. • Is generally familiar with and complies with all Murray City safety rules and regulations, SOPs, and specifications. • Assists in the operation of the valve truck. • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience • Two years of experience as a Water Technician I, or any equivalent combination of education and construction experience. ---PAGE BREAK--- Special Requirements • Must have a valid Class A Utah Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement. • Must possess a State of Utah, Grade II Water Distribution Operator certification. • Must obtain a Competent Person Trenching and Excavation certification within twelve (12) months of appointment. • Must be a certified Flag Person. • Must successfully pass a written and practical operations test specific to Murray City Water Department. • Must perform duties on trouble truck and must be generally available and respond to emergency “call outs” within 30 minutes at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Working knowledge of proper water works plumbing methods and techniques; working knowledge of light and some heavy equipment operating principles, practices, and procedures; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to Murray City’s Water Department; working knowledge of minor equipment maintenance and repair functions. • General knowledge of Murray City’s Water Distribution System, GIS mapping, and Cityworks software. • Skill in the operation of a variety of light and some heavy equipment; skill in operating a variety of hand tools. • Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED • Motorized vehicles and equipment including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, pumps, compressors, generators, common and specialized hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, radio, phone.
