MURRAY CITY CORPORATION Murray City Municipal Building 5025 S State Street Murray, Utah 84107-4824 JOB DESCRIPTION Title: METERING TECHNICIAN Department: Power Class Code: 7760 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date: August 6, 1984 (Rev. 04/2023) GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision from the Metering Supervisor, tests and programs electronic meters for residential and commercial uses. Conducts field installation of current and/or potential transformer meter installations. Conducts field testing of meters and metering installations, including transformers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Performs bench testing of both residential and commercial meters as needed. • Performs bench testing of electronic kWh and electronic demand meters. • Uses vendor/computer software to program both residential and commercial electronic meters (both kWh and demand). • Performs field installation of current and/or potential transformer installations for commercial services; calculates demand multiplier for these installations; collaborates with contractors as needed. • Performs field testing of meters and burden testing of current transformers where it is not practical to remove these for bench testing. • Performs meter change outs as required, including residential, self-contained commercial and transformer rated metering. • Installs remote metering devices as required. • Responds to service orders concerning residential and commercial customers to include meter change outs, stopped meters, rereads of meters, connects, disconnects, high bill complaints, etc. • Repairs and upgrades existing current transformer metering installations while maintaining service. Uses proper PPE to perform this task. • Investigates meter/service tampering, theft of service incidents and documents any violation as needed. • Evaluates, inspects, and maintains solar installations. • Performs after hours connects and disconnects of residential power services on a rotating on-call basis. ---PAGE BREAK--- • Performs other metering duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience • Graduation from high school plus U.S. Department of Labor Certified Journey Meterman, or an associates degree in electronics, plus two years of experience in the electrical field, or any equivalent combination of related experience and education. Special Requirements • Must possess a valid Utah Driver License. • Must have good color vision. • Must be available to take after hour calls for connects and disconnects of residential power meters as determined by an assignment schedule adopted by the Department. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Knowledge of programming, testing, and repairing of electronic meters. • Knowledge of instrument transformer operations, connections, uses of, and hazards involved with these. • Skill in reading schematic diagrams and wiring layouts. • Ability to deal with irate customers, communicate both verbally and in writing, create effective working relationships with the public and employees. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED • Laptop computer, various hand tools, radio, and other equipment pertaining to this position.
