JOB DESCRIPTION Title: SR. GOLF COURSE MAINT/TECH Department: Parks/Recreation Class Code: 7765 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date: 03/12/1986 (Rev. 10/00) Grade Number: 10 GENERAL PURPOSE Under the direction of Golf Course Superintendent, assists in providing maintenance of municipal golf course, including skilled maintenance work on irrigation systems, following schedules for turf management. Assists in the maintenance or repair of small golf course related engine equipment, both gas and diesel. May serve as a lead person on a golf course maintenance crew when needed. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Fertilizes, mows, and sprays areas on golf course as directed. Assists in the maintenance, repair and operation of automated sprinkler system. Assists in the maintenance and repair of small engines, both gas and diesel, including hydraulic equipment. Sharpens all types of mowers used on a golf course. Operates all equipment used on a golf course, and be available to use this equipment when needed. Performs preventive maintenance work, such as checking oil and fluid levels on all equipment. Maintains simple inventory records on repairs made, parts ordered, and parts inventory. Acts as a lead person on a golf course maintenance crew when needed. Coordinates work of other crew members, assuring completion of necessary tasks. Keeps vehicle records. ---PAGE BREAK--- Sr. Golf Course Maint/Tech Page 2 Services and maintains electronic activating devices throughout golf course. Performs other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Two years experience as a Maintenance Worker I at Murray City Golf Course to include one year in the operation, maintenance and sharpening of golf course mowing equipment or two years outside golf course maintenance experience to include a combination of one year equipment maintenance and sharpening of mowers, or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Special Requirements Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of planting and maintaining golf course turf, working knowledge of water schedules and fertilizers. Working knowledge of golf course mowing equipment, to include hydraulics, and small engine equipment, both gas and diesel. Ability to operate computerized irrigation system, some working knowledge of basic electricity including automatic valves, pumps and control system. Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures while making mechanical repairs; knowledge of various golf course vehicles; working knowledge of golf course maintenance, repair and operations. Ability to repair equipment with accuracy and speed, ability to create effective working relationships with employees; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain simple written records. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED Pickup truck; turf care and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, airifier, chain saw, edgers, weed trimmers, electronic motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance. ---PAGE BREAK--- Sr. Golf Course Maint/Tech Page 3 PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
