Snarr, Mayor Jan Wells, Chief of Staff [PHONE REDACTED] FAX [PHONE REDACTED] March 22, 2010 Dear Application Reviewers, I am excited about Murray City, Utah, becoming a partner with Google and experimenting with high speed broadband. Like Google leadership, I am convinced that fiber to the home and business is the best way to provide infrastructure to everyone in our Country. Your initiative is a great way to showcase the need for this vital telecommunication opportunity and our City would be a unique place for you to begin. We have shared your vision and created a fiber ring around our City many years ago. Since that time, we have partnered with other cities in Utah under the umbrella organization of the Utah Telecommunications Public Infrastructure Agency (UTOPIA) to begin placing fiber cable to government services, schools, homes, and businesses in our City. At this point in time, 60% of our City has cable in the right of ways. While we may have been a bit ahead of the curve, it seems to me that the time is right to complete the process of connecting those who are interested to this network. Our residents are ready! They appreciate the value of high speed internet and the many other opportunities this type of infrastructure will provide. We are a very self-contained City and own our Power Department, which has made it easier to attach fiber to poles, as well as provide high quality maintenance and service to our residents. There are two school districts within our boundaries that we share many services with, including this technology, which has served them and their students well. You will see from our application that we are in an excellent position to show the country what a fiber to the home or business system can do.
