Mayor’s Message: November 2012 Fall is a great time of year for me to review the City’s progress. I enjoy seeing the newly completed road projects, the preparations that are being made to plow snow, and the changes in the parks with the leaves turning. It is also a busy time for our employees as we ready ourselves for the challenges that come with cold weather. As such, there are a couple things that you too could do to help our community. Several residents have expressed concern lately about fire hazards that they see in their neighborhoods. This is good time to clear away flammable materials like dead branches, pine needles, wood or weeds that are close to your home while also taking notice of the fuels that you may by storing. Use caution in the containers and facilities in which they may be placed. Please follow the instructions associated with such materials. The best way to prevent a fire or accident is to be proactive in your own home or yard. Along that same line, we love the tree-lined streets that give our community a beautiful green feeling. Part of the work our crews do is clearing the storm drains to keep the water flowing. If leaves or debris clog the drain, it creates flooding problems in yards and on the roads. Your help is critical to keeping storm drains free of debris. Please watch these areas and clear any refuse that is close to your property. Recently, we have seen an increased number of people pan handling near our major traffic right of ways. We appreciate the plight of those who don’t have the resources they need for the basic life essentials.. However, there are better ways to have those needs met than standing on the streets. There is a public safety factor that is a concern and we encourage those in need to use the numerous resources that are available. Please consider that there are other safe and meaningful means to help those in need. Finally, we would like to congratulate the Fashion Place Mall on their 40th Anniversary. The Mall has been a great asset to the City by providing a wide variety of stores and gives our community a fun gathering place. The Mall management has been very insightful in adding and upgrading their facilities to keep it a very valuable business location. They are a wonderful community partner and we are fortunate to have them. November is a great month to remember all the things we have to be thankful for in our lives. I count being a resident of Murray City as a blessing. We have wonderful, safe neighborhoods, countless opportunities for educational experiences, many recreational choices, and a thriving business community. Thank you for being the core of what makes a great city – concerned and caring residents. I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.
