September 2014 – Mayor’s Message The past few months have been an exciting time in our community. The grand opening signs and the construction sites around Murray are a sign that business is active. The ceremonial ribbon cutting scissors have been busy the past few months. Here are just a few that have happened in the City: July 9 – Grand Opening, Clarus Vision, 6412 S. 900 East August 8 – Grand Re-Opening, Build-A-Bear Workshop (near at Fashion Place Mall August 22 – Grand Opening, Big Lots, 5650 S. 900 East August 26 – Grand Opening, American International School of Utah (AISU), their first day of school was September 2 with 1000+ students enrolled. AISU is a charter school where the 49th Street Galleria/Fun Dome used to be. August 27 – Grand Opening, Home2Suites by Hilton, 4927 S. State Street September 4 – Grand Opening, Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 5429 S. Commerce Drive Other projects in the works: Marriott Residence Inn, 171 E. 5300 South – opening any day Fashion Place Mall: o You may have noticed the demolition of the Sears store. A new Dillard’s store is under construction and is anticipating a spring 2015 opening. o The Container Store (where Macy’s was previously located) is anticipating an October 18-19 Grand Opening o Future announcements are anticipated for the existing Dillard’s store property U of U Mid Valley Health Center, 243 E. 6100 South – anticipated completion date is February 2015 New Hillcrest Jr. High – anticipated completion is spring of 2015 Future expansion plans for The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital (TOSH) Redevelopment of the Murray Downtown area Think Architecture was selected for architectural services to develop programming, site evaluation, schematic plans and cost estimates for a new City Hall/Civic Center I have only been the Mayor for nine months; I certainly cannot take credit for the above growth and development. Progress takes years of planning and development. However, I am certainly proud of Murray City and the progress taking place.
