MURRAY CITY CORPORATION JOB DESCRIPTION Title: WASTEWATER TECHNICIAN III Department: Public Works/Sewer Class Code: 7770 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date: August 30, 1985 (Rev. 08/2025) GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work on Murray City’s sanitary sewer system. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Operates and maintains Murray City’s sewer system using a variety of heavy and light duty equipment, such as: high pressure cleaning machines, rodder, closed circuit TV equipment, SL-RAT, pumps, compressors, generators, dump trucks, loaders, backhoe, pickups, and miscellaneous hand and power tools as needed. • Taps sewer mains to make new and replacement lateral connections. • Installs and repairs sewer lines within Collections system. • Raises and lowers sewer manholes and patches with asphalt or concrete. • Locates sewer mains, laterals, clean-outs, and other utilities. • Operates and maintains Murray City’s lift stations and the associated grounds. • Assists other city departments when called upon. • Performs inspections for sewer line construction work, lateral installations, and sewer line abandoning. • Maps and diagrams sewer lines and manholes with GPS; logs jobs completed. • Provides blue stake locations for sewer lines. • Installs metering equipment for flow monitoring and wastewater sampling. • Is familiar with and complies with all Murray City safety rules and regulations. • Assists Streets Department, Storm Water Department, and Water Department personnel during flooding season and snow removal activities. • Performs other duties as assigned. ---PAGE BREAK--- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience • Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years experience as a Wastewater Technician II in Murray City, or five years construction experience with at least one year experience as an Equipment Operator, or any equivalent combination of education and construction experience. Special Requirements • Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement. • Must be at least a Grade III State Certified "Wastewater Collections System" operator and successfully pass a written and practical operations test specific to Murray City Sewer Department. • Must be familiar with telemetering equipment and SCADA equipment. • Must possess a Traffic Control Technician certification (TCT). • Must possess a Certified Pesticide Applicator license. • Must be a Certified Flag Person. • Performs duties on trouble truck and must be generally available and respond within 30 minutes to emergency "call outs" at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Considerable knowledge of equipment operating principles and procedures; considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety procedures, including equipment operations, high traffic areas, noise, excavations and confined space entry policies and procedures. • Knowledge of mapping and pipe line locations, which includes knowing the direction of the flow within the sewer system. • Some knowledge of hydraulics, chemistry, and biology. • Skill in the operation of assigned equipment. • Ability to work in adverse conditions and to operate assigned equipment under varying conditions; ability to perform minor equipment maintenance and repair; ability to follow standard safety practices and procedures common to equipment operation work; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and the general public. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED • Motorized vehicles and equipment including dump truck, pickup truck, front end loader, backhoe, utility truck, pumps, compressors, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, radio, computer, tablet, phone.
