1 UDOT Region 2 Construction Update – Thursday, April 23, 2009 Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele Counties Back by popular demand…De-mystifying UDOT Region 2 by answering the questions and unveiling the that confuse and confound the driving public. Myth: UDOT road construction workers spend much of their time on construction sites standing around, leaning on shovels, shooting the breeze and doing nothing. Reality: Remember, a construction site is the office for many UDOT employees as well as our construction contractors’ crews. When workers are present but no apparent work is taking place on a jobsite it’s because they are waiting for a truckload of dirt or asphalt, for heavy machinery to arrive at the site, or for utilities to be moved. Additionally, some activities, such as backing heavy machinery or placing girders, must be monitored by other workers for safety purposes as the activity is taking place. Road construction and maintenance projects move forward step-by-step. In order to build a safe and durable roadway, each step must be completed according to strict construction standards before the project can move forward. When you see workers standing in groups, they are getting instructions or completing inspections to make sure that the work has been done to correctly. The following information outlines UDOT Region 2 road construction and maintenance activities that may result in traffic delays or road closures. For your convenience, new information and upcoming traffic impacts appear in red text on the hard copy. Short term, continuing impacts are listed in green. To get additional information on these and other Region 2 projects in Salt Lake, Tooele and Summit County, visit www.udot.utah.gov and click on “Projects and Studies.” *All work schedules are subject to changes due to weather, emergency or equipment issues.
