Special Events (5.40) The following information relates to special events that are held within Murray City: “Special Event” means an event occurring out of the ordinary course of neighborhood functions, such as races, runs, walks, parades, block parties, entertainment programs, filming of movies, speech-making, picketing, protesting, marching, demonstrating or debating public issues, which are primarily for the purpose of entertainment, fund-raising or the exercise of expressive activities of a political nature and attract participants and/or observers and are conducted in or affect public facilities and/or public streets A special event request form is required for all special events. Advertising and/or ticket sales should not begin until the application is approved by The City. Please allow 2-3 weeks for application and approval process. If the event is a block party, applicant must collect and submit with the application form a list of signatures consenting to the street closure from all neighbors whose vehicular access to their property is affected by the street closure. 5.40.070 Permit—Fees–- Waiver. A. Each initial application for a special event permit shall be accompanied by a non-refundable fee of $100 to defray the administrative costs of processing the application. *Fees for Special Events selling/serving alcohol shall be as outlined above, plus a fee of $100.00, which is refundable should the event not be approved. The following special events are exempt from City Support fees: 1. an event involving First Amendment expression. The status of an event as a First Amendment expression event shall be determined by the City Attorney; 2. neighborhood block parties which do not charge more than $1.99 in admission and/or do not receive corporate sponsorship; 3. events sponsored by civic and governmental organizations, as determined by the Mayor; 4. school events in the immediate area of the school; 5. events sponsored in the whole by the City; and 6. parades less than one mile in length. The forms below are printable from your computer, or you may pick up copies at the address below. The fees for special events are outlined on the Murray City Fee Schedule. For road hazards and/or road closures, co-ordination with the Murray City Police department will be necessary. Please be aware that the Utah State Tax Commission requires a special event tax ID# to be issued separate from a regular locations tax number. Also, motor vehicle sales will need to apply for a special event permit with the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Department If you have additional questions, please contact us at: (801)264-2676 Salt Lake Valley Health Department will need to be contacted for events selling and/ or serving food, drinks, or alcohol, utilizing amplified sound, or which involve physical hazards. Also, events expecting 500 or more attendees, will need to apply for a mass gathering permit. Application and fees must be submitted to the DABC before the 10th of the month to be on that months agenda for approval. (Commission meets usually meets the last week of the month).
