AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT RECOGNITION WHEREAS, 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signed into law by President George H. Bush on July 26, 1990; and WHEREAS, the ADA has expanded opportunities for people with disabilities by reducing barriers, changing perceptions, and facilitating participation in community activities; and WHEREAS, the ADA established a mandate for the elimination of discrimination against people with disabilities; and WHEREAS, significant progress has been made toward accessibility, fairness, and inclusion, as befits Moscow’s status as an Inclusive Community; and WHEREAS, the full promise of the ADA requires our ongoing commitment to achieve its objectives; NOW THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim July 26, 2010 as the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in Moscow, and reaffirm the City’s commitment to the tenets set forth in that Act.
