UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO LIONEL HAMPTON INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival prepares for its 41st annual event; and WHEREAS, the City of Moscow recognizes the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival’s receipt of the 2007 National Medal of Arts – the highest honor for artistic excellence and outstanding contributions to the growth, support and availability of the arts in the United States ; and WHEREAS, the City also recognizes the Festival’s long standing tradition in our community as an exemplar of music education, cultural outreach and jazz performance; and WHEREAS, the City is proud to promote this year’s rich, enhanced Festival programming; and WHEREAS, to celebrate the one-hundredth anniversary of the birth of jazz great Lionel Hampton. NOW THEREFORE, I Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim February 20, 2008, as a day of celebration of the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in the City of Moscow.
