RECREATION AND PARKS PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, The National Recreation and Park Association brings visibility to parks and recreation and quality sports programs across the United States; and WHEREAS, Recreation and parks activities provide opportunities for young people to grow and develop as contributing members of society; and WHEREAS, Recreation and parks serve as lifelines that invite active and passive life experiences for community members of all ages and abilities; and WHEREAS, Recreation and parks amenities provide opportunities for people to come together and experience a sense of community through fun recreational pursuits; and WHEREAS, Recreation and parks agencies offer outlets for healthful physical activities, socialization, leisure pursuits and stress-reducing experiences; and WHEREAS, parks, playgrounds, ballfields, community and cultural centers, nature trails, open spaces and historic sites make communities more attractive and desirable as places to live, work, play and visit; and WHEREAS, recreation and parks contribute favorably to economic vitality; and WHEREAS, parks, greenways and other open spaces provide welcome respite from our fast- paced lifestyles; and WHEREAS, such spaces help to protect and preserve the natural environment and ecosystems; and WHEREAS, Recreation and parks agencies touch the lives of individuals, families, groups and the entire community, and positively impact the social, economic and environmental quality of our community; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim July 2008 as Recreation and Parks Month in the City of Moscow, and I urge all citizens to celebrate by participating in their choice of recreational activities to improve their health and find refreshment and renewal in their lives.
