LINDA PALL DAY WHEREAS, Linda is an exceptional woman and has been an influential leader in the Moscow and regional community for more than three decades; and WHEREAS, Linda is a positive role model who helped found the Moscow Day School that continues to this day; and WHEREAS, She is involved in political affairs, serving as Chair of the Latah County Democrats and is active in the League of Women Voters and a variety of human rights, historic preservation and arts efforts; and WHEREAS, The United Vision for Idaho named her Progressive Idaho Politician of the Year in 2005; and WHEREAS, Linda is a champion of the arts, downtown revitalization, growing our famously vibrant Farmers’ Market and preserving historic buildings including City Hall and the 1912 Community Center; and WHEREAS, During her years on City Council, Linda has served as Council President, Vice President, Chair of the Public Works/Finance Committee and Chair of the Administrative Committee; and WHEREAS, She has served on the board of the Association of Idaho Cities and originated its Community Building Task Force, was the Chair of the National League of Cities University Communities Caucus, served on the National League of Cities Information, Technology and Communications Committee and was a board member of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials; and WHEREAS, Linda advocated for Moscow to become our nation’s first NewCity, a program of the NewCities Foundation of the Kentucky League of Cities championing a year-long citizen outreach effort that yielded community goals relating to increased government-citizen communication, economic development, comprehensive community planning and ultimately led to the formation of the Palouse Knowledge Corridor; and WHEREAS, Linda is a charter member of the Latah County Human Rights Task Force from which she received the Rosa Parks Human Rights Leader Award in 2003. Linda has also been instrumental in the annual ‘Finding the Center Human Rights Conference” that brings in speakers on human rights issues and played an important role in forming the Human Rights Commission in 2005; and WHEREAS, She is a tireless advocate and patron of the arts, having served as the City Council liaison to the Moscow Arts Commission; and WHEREAS, Linda has been Council liaison to the Paradise Path Task Force giving the group strong advocacy and energy; and WHEREAS, The effects of her leadership will be felt and appreciated for generations to come as symbolized by the row of eighteen red oaks planted in her honor today. Her legacy is our community and she is a model for the persistence and optimism that are integral parts of democracy and representative government, a true leader in municipal government and a worthy recipient of this honor. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 25th, 2008 as Linda Pall Day in the City of Moscow to thank Linda Pall for all that she has done and continues to do for our community.
