PROCLAMATION NATIONAL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE MONTH WHEREAS, Landscape architects have long used their design skills and aesthetic sense to shape the world around us into a more beautiful place; and WHEREAS, Landscape architects face major challenges in planning the communities, public spaces and infrastructure that will support our housing, commercial, and transportation needs; and WHEREAS, Landscape architects engage in a professional practice that directly affects, enhances and safeguards, the health, safety and welfare of the public; and WHEREAS, Landscape architects teach people to be wise stewards of the environment; and WHEREAS, Our community continues to rely on the skills of landscape architects to create, protect, and preserve our parks, local schoolyards, commercial streetscapes, wetlands, residential properties, and bicycle-pedestrian trails; and WHEREAS, April also encompasses Earth Day and the birthday of Frederick Law Olmsted who founded the landscape architecture profession in America and contributed to our own University of Idaho’s beautiful landscape; and WHEREAS, Landscape architects encourage creative sustainable design which improves property values; and WHEREAS, Landscape architects promote conservation of water through use of native and low water plants; NOW THEREFORE I, Nancy Chaney, the Mayor of Moscow, Idaho hereby proclaim the month of April 2006 to be observed and celebrated as National Landscape Architecture Month within the City of Moscow in honor of the legacy of landscape architects and in hope for the bright future of their profession.
