NATIONAL STUDENT EMPLOYMENT WEEK PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, each year colleges and universities across the country set aside a special week to celebrate the contributions of student workers; and WHEREAS, it is noted in the article “The Impact of College Student Employment on the Career Decision-Making Process,” that research has found the majority of college students are working in full-time or part-time capacities while classes are in session and has identified several benefits of college student employment; and WHEREAS, it is the goal of the City of Moscow to retain our student employees beyond graduation in a professional capacity; and WHEREAS, continuing education is an aspect of the City that enhances the quality of life in Moscow; and WHEREAS, providing hands-on experiences in the real-world work settings provides highly valued skills for post-graduate employees; and WHEREAS, the City of Moscow supports our student employees in their endeavors to achieve additional training and experience while attending school and applaud those students for their tremendous work ethic. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim April 13-19, 2008, as Student Employment Week in the City of Moscow, and call upon all the residents of this city to join with the University of Idaho and Washington State University in observing this week and recognizing the reliability, initiative and unique contributions of student employees.
