KIWANIS CHILDREN’S CANCER CURE MONTH WHEREAS: Kiwanis International is a community service organization with more than 300,000 members worldwide; and WHEREAS: Kiwanis describes itself as an organization of volunteers, changing the world, one child and one community at a time; and WHEREAS: the Moscow Kiwanis Club is a duly constituted club of Kiwanis International, chartered on May 12, 1926; and WHEREAS: the Moscow Kiwanis Club has joined its counterparts in the Pacific Northwest District in a multi-year service project to fund children’s cancer fellowships; and WHEREAS: Kiwanis Clubs in our region are collaborating with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland and Children’s Hospitals in Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. to help physicians and researchers find cures for certain forms of cancer in children; and WHEREAS: the Moscow Kiwanis Club is an important part of public service and citizen involvement in the Moscow community, providing time, energy, and resources for various community activities, especially those benefiting children and youth; NOW THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim February 2011 to be KIWANIS CHILDREN’S CANCER CURE MONTH in the City of Moscow, in gratitude and recognition of the 85 years of community service by members of the Moscow Kiwanis Club, and their contributions to help find cures for cancers in children.
