December 7, 1998 CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 Project: Mountainview Watermain & Swale -1998 1. Extra work was necessary to insta!l165 feet of the new 12-inch main at a greater depth than had been shown on the plans. That portion of the line from the creek crossing north to Sixth Street had to be laid with a cover depth of 8.5 feet to accommodate the new main's connection to the City's existing 24-inch main in Sixth Street • the 24-inch was 4.5 feet deeper than the City's standard 4.0 feet that had been anticipated in preparation of the plans. The increase in scope of work over what had been described in the contract was the additional trench excavation and backfill and most notably the use of trench boxes to provide worker safely per OSHA requirements in the deep trench. Trench backfill for the 6-inc.h fire hydrant lateral installed across Mountainview Road had to be changed from native, as designed, to crushed rock because the native was too wet/soft to be compacted properly. The extra work included furnishing !he rock and hauling away the excavated trench waste.
