ROTARY CLUB WEEK PROCLAMATION WHEREAS: The Rotary Club of Moscow is celebrating its 95th Birthday this Feb 22nd; and WHEREAS: Rotary International will celebrate its 105th anniversary on February 23 this year; and WHEREAS: Moscow’s Club is the 249th of more than 33,000 clubs worldwide; and WHEREAS: Current global membership exceeds 1.2 million; and WHEREAS: Rotary members volunteer locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio; and WHEREAS: Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self,” ; and WHEREAS: Rotary Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds; and WHEREAS: The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service; high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; and the advancement of international understanding, good will, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service; and WHEREAS: Moscow Rotarians have donated more than $98,000 to help eradicate polio and other diseases; and WHEREAS: Recent projects and programs of the Moscow Rotary Club include: o The creation, maintenance, and operation of the Rotary Veterans Memorial Pavilion and Palouse Ice Rink, o The creation and support of the Jim Lyle and Frontier Parks o University of Idaho Arboretum development (and) o The Moscow Mentoring Program for youth; and WHEREAS: The Club’s foreign exchange program is recognized as outstanding, for giving high school students once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for cultural and educational growth, NOW THEREFORE, I, Bill Lambert, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim the week of February 17th, 2015 as: Happy 95th Birthday, Moscow Rotary Club Week in the City of Moscow, and I invite all citizens to join in celebrating that organization’s dedicated service to our community, country, and world.
