Preservation Month Proclamation WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride, maintaining community character, managing growth, and enhancing livability; and WHEREAS, it is relevant that we revere the role of history in our lives, the contributions made by those before us to preserve tangible aspects of the heritage that shapes us as a people; and WHEREAS, the theme for National Preservation Month 2009 is, ʺThis Place Matters,ʺ chosen by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to raise awareness about the power that historic preservation has to protect and enhance our homes, neighborhoods and communities ‐ the places that really matter to us, and WHEREAS, our community benefits tremendously from the work of Moscow Historic Preservation Commission, Latah County Historical Society, Whitman County Historical Society and countless other volunteers and historians, and WHEREAS, Moscow’ downtown and Fort Russell Neighborhood are designated historic districts and we have many fine examples of historic architecture in our community, NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim May 2009 as PRESERVATION MONTH in the City of Moscow and call upon all citizens to pay special notice to the diverse and unique heritage of our community and of other cities and towns across our country through this observance.
