RESOLUTION NO. 2001-16 ClTY OF MOSCOW, IDAHO WHEREAS the events of September II, 2001, destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City and took thousands of innocent lives; destroyed parts of the Pentagon and took more innocent lives; and destroyed an airliner and its innocent passengers and crew over and WHEREAS the criminals and terrorists who perpetrated these crimes and orchestrated these terrible events should be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of national and international law; and WHEREAS hundreds of brave firefighters, police officers and other emergency workers perished in pursuit of their rescue efforts in New York City; and WHEREAS Mayor Rudolf Giuliani and the City Councilors of the City of New York, the city workers and the people of New York exhibited extraordinary courage, effort and stamina as they have coped with this unprecedented tragedy; and WHEREAS Mayor Kerry Donley and the City Council of Alexandria, Virginia, their staffs and citizens and Mayor Anthony Williams and the City Council of Washington, D.C., their staffs and citizens have acted heroically to deal with this tragedy and to secure their cities and public buildings; and WHEREAS the terrible events of September 11, 200 I, that cost so many innocent lives were not in keeping with the beliefs and hopes of any person of good will; and WHEREAS the people of the City of Moscow, along with the Mayor and City Council, wish to officially register their support for their sister cities and support for the American beliefs and ideals that we hold dear as citizens and government; and WHEREAS the spirit of America may have been attacked September II, 2001, bnt it will never be annihilated, never be extinguished, and never be broken; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: The people of the City of Moscow extend their deepest condolences to the Mayors, City Councils, city emergency workers, every city employee, the people of New York City, Alexandria, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and every affected family member and friend of the dead and injured. The people of the City of Moscow further extend to each of the cities and their municipal employees our immense gratitude and admiration for the heroic actions and responses to what was the ultimate test of a city's spirit and heart. The Mayor and Council of the City of Moscow ask that all of our citizens embrace people of good will and extend to all persons dignity and respect, avoiding racial and ethnic stereotypes. The City of Moscow further asks that each of our citizens stand for human rights and American values in all their dealings. City of Moscow, Idaho Resolution 2001-16 ---PAGE BREAK--- The City of Moscow shall stand now and in the future for unity in our community, bringing together the campus and the community, foreign persons and native born, persons of all ages and all racial, national, and economic backgrounds. We stand together to fight evil, bigotry and racism wherever it is found and to promote freedom, justice and peace for all. This message shall be transmitted to the official offices of New York City, Alexandria, Virginia, and Washinb>ton, D.C., with the best wishes of the citizens of Moscow, with every hope for a comprehensive recovery and with the remembrance and sympathy in our hearts for the sadness and loss these cities and their citizens are suffering.
