Idaho Farmers’ Market Week Proclamation WHEREAS, agriculture is Idaho’s leading natural resource-based industry, contributing over $5.6 billion annually to the State’s economy; and WHEREAS, farmers markets in Idaho are growing in size and popularity, with forty-eight markets presently operating throughout the State; and WHEREAS, farmers markets stimulate the local economy by directly supporting local growers and reinvesting money within the community; and WHEREAS, farmers markets help educate consumers about sustainable food systems and where their food comes from; and WHEREAS, Idaho farmers markets are great places to buy fresh, healthful, high quality local products; and WHEREAS, the City of Moscow is extremely proud of our Moscow Farmers Market, now more than 33 years old; and WHEREAS, Moscow Farmers Market is setting an example by partnering with the nonprofit Backyard Harvest, to receive Food Stamps in exchange for wholesome produce, baked goods and other fresh foods, and to deliver the same to area food banks; and WHEREAS, farmers markets like ours strengthen community spirit by bringing people together in a vibrant atmosphere; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor of the City of Moscow, do hereby proclaim August 2nd through 8th, 2009, to be Farmers’ Market Week in the City of Moscow, and I urge all citizens to join me in recognizing the many benefits of the Moscow Farmers’ Market in cur community and beyond.
