CITY OF MOSCOW WISESCAPE AWARD …for water-conserving landscaping The Wisescape Award was established in 2008 to promote water-efficient landscaping on the Palouse and to recognize individuals who set examples for aesthetics and resource conservation. The following guidelines are used for eligibility: ƒ Design o Aesthetically pleasing (Looks nice during various seasons) o Practical (Designed for efficient resource use) o Limit traditional Turf (Limited use of turf and/or water-conserving varieties) o Plant zoning (Plants with similar needs together, appropriately placed) o Efficient irrigation (Manual and/or automatic; creative capture/reuse systems as authorized) ƒ Reduce Resource Use o Water Savings (Reduced volume during peak season) o Less mowing (Savings in energy and fuel; reduction in biomass for disposal) o Labor savings (Savings in time and/or money) o Fertilizer savings (Diminished leaching of fertilizer into surface and storm water systems) o Pesticide savings (Diminished leaching of pesticides into surface and storm water systems) o Reduction in yard waste (On-site retention and/or composting) ƒ Soil o Enhancements (Compost, mulches, etc.) ƒ Plant Selection o Site-appropriate plants (Suitably selected and placed within landscape) Eligibility ƒ Nominees must reside in the City of Moscow ƒ Nominees must use a combination of Wisescape guidelines ƒ Landscapes and irrigation systems must comply with City of Moscow ordinances and resolutions. Nomination Process Submit nominations and/or questions to Nichole Baker by emailing [EMAIL REDACTED], by phoning the Moscow Water Department at (208)883-7114, or by post or hand-delivery to the Moscow Water Department at 120 West A St, Moscow. Candidates may be self-nominated, or nominated by neighbors, businesses, developers, the City etc. to receive this award. The Mayor will select winners for Wisescape Awards.
