NATIONAL PEARL HARBOR REMEMBRANCE DAY PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Congress has designated December 7th as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day; and WHEREAS, That date is set aside each year in solemn recognition of the sad events at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941, when America was attacked by military forces of Imperial Japan; and WHEREAS, This year marks the 70th anniversary of that event that led to America’s involvement in World War II; and WHEREAS, More than 2,400 people perished and more than 1,100 were wounded in that attack; and WHEREAS, We wish to honor the brave men and women who served in that war, and to reflect on the sacrifices of so many others who have shared their devotion to duty and freedom; and WHEREAS, The City of Moscow has recognized this occasion by flying the flag of the United States at half-staff until sunset on this date in reverence for those who died protecting the freedoms that we enjoy today. NOW THEREFORE, I, Nancy Chaney, Mayor for the City of Moscow, call upon the residents of our community to join us in a moment of silence to honor those who died at Pearl Harbor in service to our Country.
