City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Committee Item: Odor Characterization Study Date: November 20, 2009 Prepared by: Jessica Miller Initiated by: Starr Sullivan Action Required: Presentation and discussion of the results of the Odor Characterization Study conducted by Morrison- Maierle. Recommended Motion: None. Timeline: Referral to committee: December 7, 2009 Committee discussion: December 16, 2009 Background and Alternatives Explored: On December 1, 2008 the City, along with Eko Compost, was issued a letter of violation to take corrective action regarding odors from Eko Compost and the City of Missoula Wastewater Treatment Plant by the City/County Health Department. On March 9, 2009, the City Council approved a contract amendment with Morrison-Maierle to conduct the Odor Characterization Study. Financial Implications: Most of the report recommendations for the Wastewater Treatment Plant are already in the advanced planning stages and listed the current CIP schedule including the headworks upgrade and the Thickened Waste Activated Sludge tank odor control.
