City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Committee Item: Change Order No. 1 for the Reserve Street Sewer Main Replacement Project (Site ID 184) Date: May 6, 2010 Prepared by: Kevin Slovarp Initiated by: Kevin Slovarp Action Required: Approve and authorize the Mayor to sign Change Order No. 1 for the Reserve Street Sewer Main Replacement Project (Site ID 184), in the amount of $80,783.41 to Becco General Construction Services, LLC. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council approve and authorize the Mayor to sign Change Order No. 1 for the Reserve Street Sewer Main Replacement Project (Site ID 184) in the amount of $80,783.41 to Becco General Construction Services, LLC. Timeline: Referral to committee: May 10, 2010 Committee discussion: May 12, 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: All work for the project has been completed at this time. The original reinforced concrete pipe was failing structurally from the presence of hydrogen sulfide gases and has been replaced by PVC pipe that is resistant to the corrosive gases. This main replacement project has corrected the groundwater infiltration issue. Therefore, the wastewater treatment plant is no longer treating the groundwater that was infiltrating into the system from the previously corroded pipe. A majority of the change order work included replacement of existing corroded manholes. Financial Implications: Wastewater R & D funds will pay for this Change Order No. 1.
