City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Safety & Health Item: Letter in support of the Salcido Center and its effort to secure funding from the State of Montana Date: February 28, 2009 Prepared by: Dave Strohmaier Initiated by: Dave Strohmaier Action Required: Adopt a letter of support for the Salcido Center and its effort to secure funding from the State of Montana Recommended Motion: Either I move the City Council adopt a letter of support for he Salcido Center and its effort to secure funding from the State of Montana Or No motion: However many council members who want to sign onto a letter of support may do so without a formal motion. Timeline: Referral to committee: May 28, 2009 Committee discussion: June 3, 2009 Background and Alternatives Explored: The Salcido Center serves a critical role in Missoula as a day shelter for Missoula's homeless. However, it is currently struggling to remain open due to lack of adequate financing. Any support that the City of Missoula can lend to the effort to secure additional financing will benefit Missoula's homeless, downtown businesses, and the community at large.
