City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Conservation Committee Item: Fort Missoula Regional Park Rough Grading and Overburden Removal Date: 5-29-09 Prepared by: Kathy Mehring Initiated by: Donna Gaukler Action Required: Reject all bids and return all bid bonds for the furnishings of all labor, equipment and materials for Fort Missoula Regional Park Rough Grading and Overburden Removal – Phase one, Project 09- 04FMRP. Recommended Motion: I move the City Council reject all bids received and return bid bonds for City Project Number PR 09-04FMRP. Timeline: Referral to committee: 5-29-09 Committee discussion: 6-3-09 Council action: 6-8-09 Background and Alternatives Explored: This project consists of stripping and stockpiling topsoil and large rocks, rough grading, earth moving, landscape contouring, and removal of excess granular materials. It was anticipated that the value of the excess materials would exceed the value of the work included in the contract, resulting in a net payment back to the OWNER. The project also consisted of a bid alternate to provide and stock pile crushed base course and sub-base course on site. The project was advertised to bid on April 26 and May 3 of 2009. Plans were also available for review at the Park & Recreation Offices. Bids were opened on May 19, 2009 at 3:00 pm in the Mayor's Conference Room. Only two qualified bids were received and read. Knife River was the apparent low bidder with a base bid of $50,302.85. LS Jensen submitted a base bid of $ 111,322.50. Both bids were above the anticipated budget for the project. Parks recommends that the bids be rejected and bid bonds returned. Financial Implications: None at this time. Attachments: Bid Tab Results
